Ways to Donate

No matter how you choose to donate, all financial contributions are fully tax deductible and are processed through our sponsoring organization—the Greater Washington Community Foundation (GWCF).

Regular Donations

Credit Card

From any page on our website, click the “Donate Now” button in the upper right corner. You will be presented a pop-up window where you can select one of our suggested donation amounts or enter your own amount in the “Other” field. If you wish to contribute on a regular basis, choose the “Monthly” option.

We accept all major credit cards, PayPal, Venmo, and bank transfers via ACH. For credit-based payments, please consider choosing to “Cover transaction fees” (available when choosing your payment method); this will add the processing fee to your donation amount instead of removing it from the amount we receive.

For more information, click on “FAQs” at the bottom of the window. Click once again on “FAQs” to return to the payment options.

Check

Make your check out to “Takoma Foundation” and mail to the following address:

P.O. Box 49010
Baltimore, MD 21297-4910

Please note that checks must be mailed and postmarked within the year in which you intend to claim your tax deduction.

Donating from Donor-Advised Funds

If you have a donor-advised fund at a financial institution, another community foundation, or a sponsoring organization, your checks should be made out as described below. Since the Takoma Foundation is a fund of the Greater Washington Community Foundation and is not an independent 501(c)(3), donor advised funds will generally not allow you to give to it directly. If you are 70.5 or older, you may be eligible to make tax-free transfers directly from your individual retirement account or 401(k) to a charity of your choice as a beneficiary for unused assets in your IRA or 401(k).

When submitting your donation recommendation, please designate your gift as follows:

Payable To Greater Washington Community Foundation
FEIN 23-7343119
Fund Designation Takoma Foundation Fund

Please be sure to include the Fund Designation in the memo field to ensure your gift is directed appropriately. If your sponsoring organization requires additional information, please contact GWCF’s Donor Services.

How a Donor-Advised Fund Works

  1. Contribute: You transfer cash, stocks, or appreciated assets into the fund, which is managed by a sponsoring public charity.
  2. Grow: Once the contribution is made, you are eligible for an immediate tax deduction. The funds can be invested and grow tax-free.
  3. Grant: You can log into your account at any time to recommend distributions (grants/donations) from the fund to your favorite charities.
