Volunteer Opportunities

Azalea Awards

Awards are presented to recognize volunteers from the community that go above and beyond to make a positive impact in the community. The awards are made at the Celebrate Takoma Festival, celebrated each year in May. Volunteer opportunities include helping to create a program, invite nominations, review nominations, or coordinate the vote.

Beerfest

This annual fall event brings the community together for an evening of fun, food and beer that is also our largest fundraising event of the year. There are many volunteer opportunities here, ranging from helping to plan the event to specific tasks like designing a program to recruiting vendors.

Outreach

The foundation works with the diverse groups that make up the Takoma Park community and we are always looking to expand our network of nonprofits and other organizations that serve our community. You can help us reach out to groups you know that would like to work with the Takoma Foundation. We are especially interested in groups that work with young people and groups that serve immigrants and families that need resources.

Communications

If you have skills in database maintenance, graphic design, creating flyers/newsletters, writing, or editing or if you are social media savvy, then we can use you to help us more effectively get the word out about the Takoma Foundation.

Fundraising

If you have fundraising experience, or if you would like to learn this valuable skill, this committee would be a great fit for you. Currently the Foundation’s main fundraiser is an appeal to supporters sent out late each year. You can volunteer to help plan and carry out this annual appeal, or help us create and carry out new fundraising initiatives.

Grants

Recommendations on which grant proposals the foundation should fund are made by the Grants Committee. The committee meets twice a year to review grant applications—in the spring and fall—and also develops policies related to grants. Check out the list of our recent and past grantees to see the kinds of projects and programs we have supported.

To volunteer, please email us at info@takomafoundation.org.

If you are not sure how you can help, but would like to work with us to support your community, please email us and we can match your skills and interest with something we can work on together.
