2017 Spring Grants

The Takoma Foundation is pleased to have awarded two operational grants this spring to Takoma Radio and Rhizome. The foundation also awarded 14 project grants.

 

Project Grants

Art for the People, Inc.
A series of ceramic workshops at TPES and PBES with groups of students who participate in the ESOL.

Lunch and Learn Fiscal Agent CHEER
The mission of Lunch and Learn is to support children of limited means in Takoma Park and surrounding areas during summer break by promoting learning through academic skills.

CREATE Arts Center
smARTkids after school art program at TPES. 

Crittenton Services
PEARLS (Parenting Education and Responsive Life Skills) a bilingual program for high school mothers teaching life skills at Montgomery Blair High School.

Crossroads Community Food Service
Young Women’s Cooking Club will train 10 young women volunteers from the community in international food education.  

Dance Exchange
The Moving Field Guide, developed in partnership with the US Forest Service, integrates the arts with science learning, using movement and creative tools to connect people to the environment around them.

Screening at Community Stories Festival. 

Friends of Takoma Recreation Center
The Friends of Takoma Recreation Center along with the Takoma Recreation will use this grant to help with the costs of an Out of School Basketball Tournament for youth.

Gandhi Brigade
Our “Documentary of Conviction Summer” (DOCS) is a summer program during which our youth conceive, plan and produce a documentary on a newsworthy and topical issue.

Montgomery County Collaboration
Montgomery County Collaboration Council program “ACE Academy,” an afterschool program ACE Academy will not be able to have a Lights On Afterschool event in 2018 due to budget cuts. Academy students and families will benefit by bringing public awareness to the Takoma Park community to ensure that all children have access to quality afterschool programs. 

Piney Branch Elementary
The purpose of the Home Visit Program is to build a stronger relationship between the Piney Branch staff members and the families of the students we serve.  This goal will be accomplished as staff members visit with families in the home setting, engaging in conversation to help establish strong connections between the home and school.

Move More-Sit Less, training for teachers on the Move More-Sit less Program and equipment for the program..

Takoma Park Elementary
Books and Breakfast provides opportunities for families to share positive learning experiences around books and reading.

Village of Takoma Park
Aging Well Seminar Series to facilitate and culturally sensitive outreach to underserved and minority communities.
