Remembering Azalea Awards 2006
More than 75 individuals and organizations were nominated early last year for the 2006 Azalea Awards to honor those who give generously of their time for the greater good of Greater Takoma. Then eight winners were announced on May 13th in the new community center at a red-carpet ceremony co-hosted by the Takoma Foundation and the Takoma Voice.
Mary Stover, outgoing president of the Foundation, and Eric Bond, publisher of the Voice acted as emcees for the event, which attracted an exceptionally glamorous crowd.
Nominees and winners were determined in a "people's choice" method, through balloting on the Takoma Voice website. Four hundred and seventy-seven ballots were cast in seven categories: Spirit, Youth, Arts, Environment, Business, Neighborhood, and Volunteer of the Year.
